The Italian Customs and Monopolies Agency (ADM) has announced 46 operators cleared to advance in the licensing process for remote gaming. This decision follows the introduction of a new regulatory framework designed to modernize Italy’s gambling laws.
The ADM’s Directorate for Remote Gaming and Betting released the list, which includes prominent operators such as LeoVegas, Snaitech, Sisal, and Stake. All other applicants were deemed ineligible. Among the approved applicants were also Admiral Sport, Betfair Italia, and Greentube.
The licensing procedure, established on March 25, 2024, under Article 6 of the relevant legislative decree, culminated in a document signed by Antonio Giuliani, head of the ADM’s online gaming division.
The upcoming regulatory overhaul promises to significantly reshape the Italian gaming landscape. The list of successful applicants includes significant players like Snaitech and Sisal, both subsidiaries of the international sports betting giant, Flutter. Snaitech joined Flutter’s portfolio in April after a €2.3 billion acquisition from Playtech. Sisal, meanwhile, had previously bid for Italy’s national lottery license, a move that faced local opposition due to concerns about potential cross-selling with its sister company, Snaitech.
Stake Italia also secured a place on the approved list, despite its recent prohibition in the United Kingdom. Conversely, Brightstar Lottery (formerly IGT), which obtained the Italian Lottery license in May and will hold it until 2034, did not feature on the list. Brightstar’s consortium partners, including Allwyn, Arianna 2001, and Novomatic Italia, also did not appear, as their focus remains on lottery operations.
