The Italian Customs and Monopolies Agency (ADM) has announced the advancement of 46 operators to the next phase of the remote gaming license application process. This significant development follows the introduction of a new regulatory framework designed to modernize Italy’s gaming laws.
The list of successful applicants includes prominent names in the industry such as LeoVegas, Snaitech, Sisal, and Stake Italia. Other operators were deemed ineligible to proceed. The complete list was published by the ADM’s Games Directorate – Remote Gaming and Betting Office, and signed by Antonio Giuliani, the office’s head.
This selection process commenced on March 25, 2024, in accordance with Article 6 of the relevant legislative decree. The new regulatory structure, upon approval, will fundamentally reshape the landscape of Italian gaming regulations.
Key Players Advance
Among the successful applicants are Snaitech and Sisal, both subsidiaries of the international gaming giant Flutter Entertainment. Snaitech joined the Flutter portfolio in April 2024, following a €2.3 billion acquisition from Playtech. Sisal’s recent bid for the Italian national lottery license faced local opposition due to concerns about potential cross-selling with Snaitech.
Notable Inclusions and Exclusions
Interestingly, Stake Italia secured a place on the list despite its recent prohibition in the United Kingdom. Conversely, Brightstar Lottery (formerly IGT), the May 2024 winner of the Italian Lottery license, is notably absent from the list. Brightstar Lottery, operating in a consortium with Allwyn, Arianna 2001, and Novomatic Italia, will hold the national lottery concession until 2034. These consortium partners are also excluded from the remote gaming licensing process, as their primary focus remains on lottery operations.
