The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Gambling Reform has initiated a comprehensive review of gambling regulation in the United Kingdom. This inquiry will thoroughly evaluate the efficacy of current regulations and harm reduction strategies.
The review’s scope includes assessing the progress made since the publication of the government’s White Paper. A key focus will be determining whether the existing legal framework remains appropriate for the digital age. Concerns persist regarding gambling-related harm and the effectiveness of current protective measures for vulnerable individuals.
The APPG will investigate the need for more robust interventions and potential structural overhauls. This includes exploring the possibility of enacting a new Gambling Act. Sir Iain Duncan Smith MP, Chair of the APPG, commented that while the previous government’s White Paper was a positive step, significant further action is needed to create a regulatory system adequately safeguarding citizens in the digital environment.
The APPG is seeking written submissions from individuals and organizations to inform this inquiry. The deadline for submissions is September 12th, 2025. Details regarding the inquiry and submission procedures can be found on the APPG’s official website.
